I have seen many of these thumbprint heart necklaces, but the price always gets me...darn sterling silver. I thought that I could probably tackle this as a DIY with some simple inexpensive craft supplies, and overall I am happy with the end result. Keep reading if you want to see how I created this DIY.
Supplies:
Oven Baked Clay (Silver)
Necklace Chain
Jump Ring
Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter
Wax Paper
Rolling Pin
Toothpick- not pictured
Black Crayon- not pictured
Put a small piece of clay between two sheets of wax paper, and roll out to about a 1/4".
This is what it'll look like after it is rolled out.
Cut out heart shape with cookie cutter.
Gently press finger prints into clay. My husband imprinted his fingerprint on the left and then I did mine on the right. Then, create a hole for the jump ring by using a toothpick.
Put on a cookie sheet and bake according to the directions on the clay package.
After the heart has cooled from the oven, take a black crayon and gently run it over the fingerprints. Initially, I planned to use the rub and buff...but this method worked much better.
Voila! All finished! Now I have a little token of our love to wear around my neck....cheesy, I know. I love it anyway. This would be perfect to do with kiddos too.
