DIY- Hollywood Regency Greyhound

As I have previously said, I am in love with anything Hollywood Regency style. I first spotted a ceramic greyhound on a blog a few months ago and I was in love. So naturally, I scoured the internet looking for one for my home. I came across a few but they were way out of my budget. Last month, I went to Tuesday Morning and found a greyhound in their garden department, he definitely wasn't the right color but he most certainly had potential. For $35 dollars he went home with me, for a glamor treatment was in his immediate future.

The Inspirations:

What you'll need:

Greyhound- or dog of your choice (mine is from Tuesday Morning)
Fine grit sandpaper
Primer
Spray Paint- High Gloss White

This is how he looked from the store. He is made out of resin and was coated in some sort of varnish.

He was just dying to be something more glamorous than this!

First thing I did was sand him down. Diva Darling keep telling me he was starting to look more like a giraffe than a greyhound.

After sanding him down, I gave him a few coats of primer. Some of the staining kept showing through so I had to make sure I had him good and primed. After that I used a high gloss white and gave him a few coats.

Here he is in all his glory, looking on guard and very regal next to my bar cart. He is kind of a mobile greyhound, as he has graced my fireplace, buffet and front door. This was a super simple and affordable way to add some Hollywood Regency style to my home. What do you think? I also love that he is virtually indestructible (resin, you are my friend) with my little Diva Darling around.

Hollywood Regency Inspiration

Hollywood Regency is one of my new lust after styles. I love how elegant the furnishing and home accessories look in a modern home. Gilded etageres and tufted furniture are probably my favorites. I am really careful not to invest in uber trendy pieces of furniture or clothing since my budget doesn't allow for new purchases when the trends change. I have incorporated a few Hollywood Regency inspired pieces to my home that make it feel modern and not stuck in another time period...a bar cart, glassware, and accessory pieces. Friday I will show you what Hollywood Regency inspired DIY I tackled over the weekend.

Summer at the Beach

Vitamin A "Redondo" Romper, H&M Bikini, Betsey Johnson Straw Tote, Jeanne Simmons Beach Hat, Madewell Belle Sandals, Beach Towel, Marc Jacobs Aviator Sunglasses, Fekkai "Summer Hair" Cooling Shine Mist, Lancome Juicy Tube, Bvlgari Mon Jasmine Noir Perfume, Nars Laguna Bronzer, Nars Eyeshadow Trio, Chanel Le Vernis Nail Color, Deborah Lippman Boom Boom Pow Nail Color.

A few weeks ago we were vacationing at the beach, enjoying the sun, sand and surf. The time seems to pass so quickly and before you know it, you are heading back home and wishing you could have stayed for just one more day. As our family grows, it seems like we are carrying arms loads of stuff out on to the beach....chairs, umbrella, towels, bags, toys and a cooler. It seemed to be so much more simpler when it was just the hubby and I. Here are a few items that I had in my beach tote and a few that I am totally crushing over!

Weekend in Pictures

Hopefully everyone had a wonderful Father's Day weekend! We had a great weekend and the weather was absolutely wonderful. While shopping for my husband I stumble upon some great sales at Bath and Body and Victoria's Secret. This is a great time of the year to stock up on some essential items. The rest of the weekend was spent at the flea market and a day of fishing at the lake. We just couldn't have ask for a better family weekend. Here is a collection of a few of my recent favorite finds.
Isn't this glamorous? I found this lovely mid century Queens Lusterware decanter and glass set at a flea market for only $6! I just love the show Mad Men and this reminds me so much of the glasses they feature on that show. They are going to be the perfect addition to my bar cart.
I love designer items and love to find them at a fraction of their original retail price. I found this Adam Lippes top at a local thrift store for only $2! Such a score.
A few weeks ago my husband scored this nautical style Stella & Dot necklace at a yard sale. The price on this little gem was $2. Hubby has such a good eye for items that I may like.
Who doesn't love some Italian leather shoes? These Via Spiga heels are super cute and super comfy. I just love the suede leather and little heart design on the front. I can't wait to pair these with a cute top and jeans and head out for a night on the town with my hubby.

Memorial Day kicks off the unoffical start to summer around my home. As much as I love winter clothing, I can't wait to bring out my shorts, tanks and summer sandals. Turquoise, coral and yellow all remind me of summer and the ocean. Next month we will be heading to the shore for some R&R and beach time, and these are a few items that I wouldn't mind packing in my summer getaway bag.

DIY- Dannijo Rivera Neon Inspired Cuff

Neon seems to be everywhere these days, so I wanted to create a simple DIY that can add just a little touch of neon to an outfit. This DIY cost less than $10 to create and is a great way to try some neon without breaking the bank. The inspiration cost $245.
Inspiration photo via Dannijo
Supplies needed:

Cuff
Chain
Rhinestone chained- either purchased the color you want or created
E6000 Adhesive
To create the neon pink effect, I took a simple rhinestone chain and colored it using nail polish. This gave it the opaque neon pink color like the inspiration. The polish is Wet n Wild #429D Dreamy Poppy.
To get the blue rhinestone color, I used a blue sharpie.
Using E6000 adhesive, glue the main chain portion onto the cuff.
Next, glue on the pink rhinestone portion.
This is what you should have this far.
Finally, glue down the blue rhinestone portion of the cuff.
All finished!
I think that it turned out very close to the inspiration photo, and I'm so excited to wear this! Let me know if you try this DIY out, I would love to hear.

Neon Inspiration

Dannijo Necklace, modcloth Neon Sweater, Karen Walker Sunnies, Ribbon tennis bracelet, Dannijo Rivera bracelet, Brian Atwood neon pumps, American Apparel neon nail polish, Rebecca Minkoff neon coin purse.

So the neon trend from the 80's has officially come back. What can I say, I loved it then and I still love it now. Everyone loves to bring back a piece of their childhood right? I haven't seen neon socks yet...my personal favorite from when I was little :-)

Here is some inspiration for my DIY this week. What do you think of the neon trend? Are you on board or ready to jump ship?

Weekend in Pictures

What a gorgeous and busy weekend we had here. I found this lovely butterfly silk scarf at an estate sale and it makes me yearn for spring.

My hubby and I decided to take a last minute date night before our new little boy arrives...hopefully this week. We took in some shopping and a movie. Did you see The Grey this weekend? Scared the heck out of me, and hubby laughed at all my jumps and screeches. Now I know this movie wouldn't scare about 97% of the population, but I can scare myself in a lighted room with nothing in it :-) Overall, I didn't think the movie was really good, but better than some I have seen recently.
Hubby took me to the thrift store this weekend and I scored these two Missoni for Target Neoprene Laptop sleeves (1 for me and 1 for a friend) for just $6. Remember how crazy people were to snag a few Missoni goodies? Absolutely crazy that now I see them in a thrift store.
I have been searching for a pair of Foo Dog for like ever. I found this lovely pair at Target for just $9.99 each. They are ceramic and are a really pretty pewter color. I snatched these guys up and now are serving as bookends on my credenza.
Raspberry vanilla smoothies were the perfect pre-shopping treat. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

Travel Comfort

Mulberry Diary, Kate Spade iphone case, Drape Sweater, H&M skinny jeans, H&M Sunglasses, Hurley Book Tote, Chanel Nail Color, Smashbox Eyelights Palette, Tory Burch Reva Flats.

Lately, we have been doing a lot of last minute travel. Sometimes these outings can be short or long trips, but either way I love to be comfortable in the car. Comfortable shoes and clothing are a must for me. Traveling always seems to get my mind in motion and I have come up with some killer ideas while out. So I don't forget things, I love to carry some sort of journal or diary to capture my thoughts and ideas. And, who couldn't forget a big satchel to put everything in!

Weekend in Pictures

One of my favorite things to do is going to estate sales....it's such a treasure hunt and you just never know what you will find. This weekend my hubby took me to another estate sale and this one didn't disappoint. I snagged these wonderful vintage 50's opera glasses (with original case and box) for less than $5. They are in perfect condition and I can only imagine what they have seen.
We finally got snow over the weekend, so I took some time to create some more glamorous things for my Etsy store. You can find this one here.
Diva Darling and I had a girls night, complete with movies and junk food. Can you guess which movie was her choice?
Finally, these are some of my go to lip colors for this season. The lipstick is Loreal Color Riche in Scarlet and Smashbox lip gloss in Siren.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Weekend in Pictures

Winter finally arrived this weekend, at least temperature wise...thank goodness we didn't receive any snow. This post is just about some of my favorite things from the weekend. I absolutely love dried cranberries. They are such a tasty treat that is low if fat and yummy to boot!
This is one of my new favorite scents. It is sugared vanilla from Yankee Candle. I get all the yummy smells without having to down a dozen cookies.
Trying to get a book read before my little one shows up...since I know it will be a few months before I will have time to read again. This is The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks.
My little succulent is doing so well that I have decided to try and keep a larger plant alive. Diva Darling found this zebra striped pot at Ross last weekend and I think she did an excellent job picking it out. It looks perfect in our dining room.

After reading several blogs and perusing the Internet this week, I am going to try my hand at something neon for this weeks DIY (thank you Erin for the inspiration). Neon scares me a little, and definitely brings me back to my childhood in the 80's....who can forget neon friendship bracelets and socks?

Hope you all had a good weekend.

Chevron Inspiration

I have always been inspired by patterns. and lately I have been loving anything with a chevron or zigzag pattern. When wearing it as fashion or in home design it really makes a strong impact. Adding chevron patterns to your wardrobe or home interior can be very simple and easily changeable....like adding a chevron bracelet or chevron throw pillow to your couch.

The chevron pattern has inspired my DIY for this week so check back on Friday to see what I create.

Weekend in Pictures

I officially have 4 weeks left until my little boy comes, and I really haven't had the energy to go and do to many things over the weekend (even though sadly, it was over 60 degrees this weekend). So this weeks post is kind of just some of the things I have been working on, and some of the things that I love right now.
Hubby got this leather wallet/coin purse for me for Christmas. It is so buttery soft and has a gorgeous silk lining on the inside. I absolutely love it!
I have heard so much about Maybellines Baby Lips that I had to get a couple to try out. I haven't had them long enough to determine whether or not I love them, so we'll see how it goes.
Lemon Curd has been one of my favorites since I was a child. It is so yummy spread on a piece of toast.
I love this classic saying. It is one of those things that I try to remind myself of often. Have I mentioned that I have a 2 year old? I have an easy DIY for this week, so be on the lookout for that post at the end of the week. Anyways, I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Comfort in Taupe

Eugenia Kim Marina Captains Hat, House of Harlow Antler Bangle, House of Harlow Triple Arrowhead Ring, Kate Spade Dune Peep-Toe, Target Mossimo Denim Jegging, Chloe Sunglasses, Stella & Dot Cleo Fringe Earring, Balenciaga Giant Velo Hamilton handbag.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas holiday. Now that Christmas has passed and winter is in full swing, I tend to gravitate towards clothes that feel so comfortable and warm. I'm currently lusting after anything taupe...out of the ordinary since I really love anything black. Here is some inspiration for me the next time I go shopping.
